EMC and thermal requirements
often need to be balanced with acoustic noise
specifications. Close to the EMC-lab the Philips
Applied Technologies acoustic measurement facilities
are at hand in building HTC-35.
The 230 m3 Reverberant room
is used for product sound power labeling (ISO-3741),
production quality control and noise reduction studies.
Nearby anechoic facilities are used for directivity
analysis. Unique is the acoustic imaging facility for
localizing noise sources as small as individual PCB mounted
components.
Within Mechatronics Technologies the group Acoustics &
Control has worked on many Philips as well as non-Philips
products that have been analyzed and optimized for
acoustics. HTC-35 also is home to the Philips-CTT course on
Noise Control (“NOVIC”).
