Pierre Beeckman receives IEC 1906 Award
On
October 13th 2005, the IEC 1906 Award has been granted to Pierre
Beeckman, principal scientist within the ElectroMagnetics Competence
center (EMC) of Philips Applied Technologies. The award was given
for his contribution in the field of Electromagnetic Compatibility
(EMC) standardization within IEC's subcommittee CISPR and was
presented at the premises of NEN (the Dutch Standardization
Institute in Delft).
The International Electrotechnical Commission (IEC) is the
leading global organization that prepares and publishes
international standards for all electrical, electronic and related
products and technologies. Over ten thousand engineers and
scientists are involved in this work. CISPR is one of the Technical
Committees under the umbrella of IEC.
CISPR's
principal task is to prepare standards that protect radio reception
from interference sources. The IEC 1906 Award was established in
commemoration of the IEC's of foundation and honors IEC technical
experts around the world, whose work is fundamental to the IEC. The
award recognizes exceptional and recent achievement - a project or
other specific contribution - related to the activities of the IEC
and which contributes in a significant way to advancing the work of
the Commission. The IEC Award consists of a placard and an insigne.
Since 1996, Beeckman is involved in the CISPR standardization
process. As such he defends the interests of both Philips and The
Netherlands. Establishing a standard together with different parties
of interest in an international environment requires both technical
and political maneuvering as well as perseverance. Typically it
takes four years to establish a new standard.
All Philips products have to comply with EMC standards, and in
general it needs significant design effort to comply with emission
and immunity requirements. EMC compliance demonstration is hampered
very much by the various uncertainties involved in EMC testing. In
the past years, Beeckman contributed to reduction and handling of
the uncertainties involved in EMC compliance testing.
He received the IEC Award for his sustained and outstanding
contribution to this work.
Beeckman was very pleased and honored to receive this prestigious
award. The achievement is only possible by having the long-term
support of many colleagues of the EMC and IP&S and but also the
availability of state-of-the-art facilities and tools. Furthermore,
it is recognition for Philips Applied Technologies position in the
field of EMC as well as its sponsors and customers of
standardization, in particular the CTO offices of PCE and PMS.

8 & 9 November
EMC Market 2005
High Tech Campus Eindhoven
The Philips EMC market will be held on November 8-9, 2005 at the
High Tech Campus Eindhoven, The Netherlands.
The EMC Market is an Internal Philips mini-symposium to share
information in the fields of ElectroMagnetic Compatibility (EMC),
Electro Magnetic Fields (EMF) and Electro Static Discharge (ESD).
Various speakers will present to you relevant design concepts,
update you on legislation, EMC project organization and share their
experiences in test & measurement in these fields. Furthermore, the
bi-annual EMC market offers you a unique platform to meet experts
from all Philips product divisions and to update your professional
network. It also offers you the opportunity to visit the unique
facilities of the ElectroMagnetics Competence center (EMC).

October 2005
Open Innovation and New Products
4 October 2005
High Tech Campus Eindhoven
We will participate in the event: "Open Innovation & New
Products" in October 2005 on the High Tech Campus Eindhoven.
Piet Berkhout will present in session 1 under the title "Right
First Time".
How systematic evaluation of consequences of electromagnetic and
thermal aspects of products early on in the Product Creation Process
(PCP) and in the entire value and supply chain, may contribute
substantially to an early market release, lower cost (including Bill
of Material) and reduced Field Call Rates.
We are also present with a stand and visitors to the event have
the opportunity to visit our unique facilities.
