Innovative interaction technology
Working for clients such as Philips Consumer Lifestyle, Philips Lighting and
Philips Healthcare, we invented novel ways of interacting with devices. For
example, to exchange content between devices, to link devices by holding them
close to each other, or to navigate content with point-and-click and voice
control solutions. These solutions are based on thorough understanding of the
usage context of the anticipated product. A good example is the ‘touch link’
concept that is used for ‘Living Colors’.

Innovative applications
Point-of-sale solutions for TV –
Philips Consumer Lifestyle wanted point-of-sale
solutions that would attract consumers and
highlight the key benefits of Philips TVs. We
analyzed the usage context, interviewed
stakeholders, defined usage scenarios and
developed a usage requirements specification. We
built experience demonstrators to get feedback
from all stakeholders. We ran two concept tests
with consumers in MediaMarkt Eindhoven to refine
the solutions. This resulted in the development
of the 'Electronic Shop Assistant', an
interactive device that starts demos that
highlight new features. Another concept –
'Feature Promotion Banner' – was implemented for
release in 2008.

Home lighting control systems –
Philips Lighting commissioned us to design,
build, and user test future remote-controlled
lighting systems. We proposed a system that
enables people to group their lights in whatever
way suits them without the need for
re-installing existing light fittings and power
supplies. We now work with the client to
translate the HSI concept into commercial
products.

UI implementation
Smart photo classification – Philips
Applied Technologies needed a way of persuasively
demonstrating to potential clients the benefits of
some innovative photo classification algorithms it
had developed. We built a web-based interaction
solution that has already been used successfully to
secure contracts from clients.
